The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is accepting grant applications for $1.9 million in funding for environmental education projects and programs. The purpose of the grants is to promote environmental stewardship and help develop knowledgeable and responsible students, teachers and citizens. EPA expects to award at least 20 grants nationwide ranging from a minimum of $15,000 to a maximum of $100,000. Applications accepted until May 2, 2011.

Students in grades K-8 can help raise awareness about sun safety and win prizes by entering the contest, sponsored by the SHADE Foundation of America, WeatherBug Schools, and the U.S. EPA. The national winner in the 4th-8th grade category will receive a family trip to Disney World and a WeatherBug Tracking Station for his/her school. Hand-drawn entries should be original and creative. Contest opens October 1st.
