The Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the Education Department and is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all Virginia Zoo volunteer programs. Volunteers, also known as the ‘Zoo Crew,’ include Docents, Junior Docents, B.E.A.R.S. (Behavior, Enrichment and Animal Resource Squad), Horticulture, Education Interns, Special Events and other episodic volunteers and groups.

Educators are trained to work with all programs (school, college, family and adult, and summer camp programs) and will work with learners of all levels, including K-12 students, college students, and adult learners. You will gain valuable and diverse knowledge regarding aquarium and field equipment use and maintenance, boat crew skills and boat safety, group leadership in laboratory and field settings, time management and marine husbandry.
