Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Children’s Garden has been a leader in providing urban children with hands-on gardening experience for 98 years. Seasonal instructors create and implement lesson plans on gardening, nature study, craft, and cooking activities for a seven week program cycle. Instructors teach and mentor a group of 8-12 children (pre-K/Kindergarteners or 1st-8th graders) outdoors while also mentoring 1-2 teen apprentices. Seasonal instructors learn and perform basic horticultural skills under the guidance of full-time staff. Full time staff members work with seasonal instructors to further develop and reinforce horticulture and education skills.
Duration: Training: 2/25, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24; Program: 3/30 – 6/2/12
Hours: Training: Saturdays, 9am-4pm;
Program: Fridays, 2-6pm and/or Saturdays, 9am-3:30pm.
Compensation: $10.00/hour.
Qualifications: College-level coursework or career experience that demonstrates an interest and commitment to hands-on education, urban agriculture, plants, and the environment. Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with children. Hiring is contingent on a background check and fingerprinting.
