MONOMOY NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

 

Location:

Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, Chatham, MA

 

Position Title:

Interpretive Intern

 

Employment Details:

Interpretive interns needed to assist with visitor services at Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, a unique 7,604 acre barrier island refuge located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The position will start between May 15th and June 1st and last for 12 weeks.  The Refuge is a premiere nesting location for migratory shorebirds and has people visiting from across the globe. 

 

Duties:

The selected applicant’s primary duties will include developing and guiding weekly interpretive programs for audiences of all ages; providing trailside interpretation; designing and constructing refuge fliers and brochures, and working with volunteers. In addition, the position will include data entry, answering phones, responding to information requests from the public, and assisting the biological program such as inventorying and monitoring coastal nesting waterbirds birds, tagging horseshoe crabs, and other general field work.

 

 

Qualifications:

Requirements for the position include a valid driver’s license, enthusiasm, public speaking skills, ability to work independently, and the willingness to work weekends and holidays with minimal supervision and to interact with the public in a professional manner.  Past experience in natural resources and/or education is desirable.  Applicants must also be able to be in the field for 8 hours at a time in a remote location.

 

 

Salary:

Stipend will be determined on a sliding scale with a maximum of $215.60/week and includes free housing. No stipend is guaranteed. Pay will be based on yet-to-be-determined annual funding appropriations for 2012 and experience of the individual.  Housing is located near the visitor contact station at 30 Wikis Way, Chatham, MA.
