Educator / Deckhands and Interns on New Jersey's Tall Ship

The Bayshore Discovery Project operates the restored 1928 Delaware Bay oyster schooner A J MEERWALD as a hands-on classroom, promoting stewardship of the Delaware Bayshore region. 

Educator / Deckhands on the A J MEERWALD present on-board education programs including Delaware estuary-specific topics of environment (biology and ecology), history, and culture; participate in shipboard operations and maintenance; and participate in shore-based education programs and events.  Educator / Deckhands also work with volunteers and assist in volunteer training.  Environmental education experience required; a degree in an environmental / natural resources field and sailing / boating experience preferred but not required. The positions run from late March to the first week of November, and include competitive salary, room and board on the boat (mostly vegetarian meals) and crew apartment in the Bivalve area.  Ports visited include Philadelphia, New York, Cape May, Norfolk, and Baltimore.

Intern Educator / Deckhand positions are for 3 months; spring, summer, or fall.  Interns work alongside full season Educator / Deckhands, participating in all aspects of our operations.  Environmental education experience, a degree in an environmental / natural resources field and sailing / boating experience preferred but not required. Competitive salary, room and board on the boat (mostly vegetarian meals) and crew apartment in the Bivalve area included.
