| Description: URI's Environmental Education Center is seeking a qualified individual to coordinate a summer day camp program for 50 children each week ages 8-11. Responsibilities: hire, supervise and support 5 day camp counselors plus support staff and junior counselors and carry out pre-season training, and mid-season enrichment and performance evaluations; carry out staff scheduling, program logistics, and program evaluation; facilitate staff meetings, camper check-in/check-out, camper orientation, and parent day (Friday); coordinate and oversee shuttle service, vehicle needs, swim times, Thursday night camp-outs, and other special programs; order teaching supplies and equipment; communicate with nursing and office staff; act as parent liaison; monitor program quality; oversee facilities management and including buildings, and grounds; and fill in for day camp teachers if necessary during emergencies. Day camp sessions run Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm for eight weeks. Eco-Zone Day camp programs emphasize education of agriculture and ecology, self-esteem, environmental stewardship, and conservation. |

The Site: The URI Environmental Education Center is situated on 2,300 acres of forests, wetlands, and old farmland—the W. Alton Jones Campus. Dedicated to environmental education, the Center has been offering quality day and residential programs for over 30 years. The Eco-Zone Day Camp utilizes the botanically unique Nettie Marie Jones Nature Preserve. The Nature Preserve has woodland and swamp trails, fields, wildflower meadows, brooks, and a classroom building all adjacent to 75 acre Lake Eisenhower. Day Campers participate in outdoor lessons in forest and wetland ecology, wildlife biology, canoeing and go on a night hike and overnight camp-out. |

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, environmental studies, outdoor recreation, or a related field; experience teaching young children; supervisory experience. Teaching certificate is a plus but not required. Excellent communication/interpersonal/organizational skills. Red Cross certification in standard first aid and CPR is required. Applicants must have a valid driver's license with no risk-creating infractions. Familiarity with natural history, environmental stewardship, and conservation preferred. Applicants must be 25 years of age or older by June 26. Pets are strictly forbidden on site. All final applicants will be subjected to a criminal background check. |

Salary: Compensation includes $550 per week, or $450 per week plus room and board. |
