The Bayshore Discovery Project operates the restored 1928 oyster schooner A J MEERWALD, New Jersey’s official Tall Ship, as a hands-on classroom. Our mission is to motivate people to take care of the environment, history, and culture of New Jersey’s Bayshore region through education, preservation, and example.
Responsibilities of the Co-Education Coordinator include overseeing on-board and shore-side education programs, curriculum/program development, crew and volunteer training and supervision, and assisting with vessel operations. Maintain records, evaluations, and education equipment and supplies. Alternate with other Co-Education Coordinator vis-a-vis time on the ship and time in the office.
A degree relevant to the position is required, along with some teaching experience. A strong environmental ethic is a must, along with plenty of stamina, flexibility, and a positive attitude. Environmental education, curriculum development, and boat experience a plus.
Compensation includes salary (based on experience), room and board on the boat (mostly vegetarian meals), and housing in our crew apartment in the Bivalve area. Ports visited include Philadelphia, New York, Cape May, Norfolk, and Baltimore. Position is seasonal beginning immediately, but could be year-round for the right person.
