Location: Mammoth Cave, KY
General Information about the Park

Mammoth Cave National Park is home to the longest cave system in the world.
Mammoth Cave is currently measured and mapped at approximately 365 miles
and growing. The park itself is 53,000 acres of rolling hills and valleys,
accessed by over 90 miles of trails (hiking, horse, bike) as well as 30
miles of river. The park is covered in a lush oak-hickory hardwood forest.



Bat Monitoring Intern (Position Code: 13874)

You will assess bat use of various man-made structures and trees; use
night-vision equipment to perform bat exit counts on caves, buildings,
structures, and trees; make ultrasonic acoustic transects and observations
(stationary and driving) for monitoring bat activity using Anabat
equipment; assess bat usage of caves and artificial roosts on the park;
educate the public on bats and possible threats to them; track bats using
radio-telemetry (possible); and enter wild (non-show) cave but with no
requirement to handle live bats (possible). This position may also include
opportunities to help produce bat-related research summaries and other
scientific communications aimed at a general audience
